The Indian Coast Guard has been engaged in a series of back-to-back emergency response efforts after Cyclone Tauktae cast four oil and gas vessels adrift off the coast of Mumbai, sent a tug aground off Karnataka and left multiple vessels in distress off Maharashtra and Gujarat.

As part of its ongoing investigation into the loss of the liftboat Seacor Power, the National Transportation Safety Board published a summary of facts as a preliminary report into the fatal accident that left seven people missing, and six bodies recovered after the accident. While the NTSB cautions that no conclusions about the cause of the accident should be drawn from the report, it provides the first glimpse into the events that lead up to the vessel capsizing on April 13, 2021, near Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

On Saturday,15 May the ‘HMM NURI’, the first containership in a newbuild series total of eight for the South Korean shipping company HMM - formerly Hyundai Merchant Marine – paid her first call in the Port of Hamburg. She was handled at HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai - CTB.

Seven rescued lions were flown for free by Qatar Airways Cargo, from Ukraine all the way to South Africa, via Doha. The lions are safe and sound in their new homes.

Paris, 12 May – Education is not giving students sufficient knowledge to adapt, act and respond to climate change and environmental crises, according to a new report published by UNESCO on the eve of the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, which will take place on line from Berlin (Germany), from 17 to 19 May.

An international alliance of 45 companies, knowledge institutes and port authorities, headed by the Port of Rotterdam Authority, has been awarded nearly € 25 million in EU funding. The consortium will be using this grant to execute 10 pilot projects and demonstration projects that focus on sustainable and smart logistics in port operations. In the years ahead, the transport sector is expected to transition to clean power. At this moment it is not clear yet which types it will be adopting exactly, and for which modes of transport.
