Port of Helsinki Ltd to focus on functional travel and transport chains

2018 09 27

In accordance with the new strategy devised under the leadership of CEO Ville Haapasaari, the Port of Helsinki aims to be the most functional port in the world. Accordingly, the Port will focus its future business operations on services for ship passengers and cargo transport chains.

“The goal of the new model is to achieve clearer management and development of business operations. With our customer segments managed from one place, we can develop our operations in a more comprehensive manner than before,” says Ville Haapasaari, elaborating on the background to the changes.

Ms Sari Nevanlinna M.Sc. (Econ.) M.Soc.Sci, 37, has been appointed as director of passenger business operations, and she will start in her position on 1 December 2018. She has extensive experience with and a strong background in developing passenger services and leading business operations for example at Finnair.

“The opportunity to develop the passenger experience at a company that is key to the competitiveness and accessibility of Finland was an offer that I could not refuse. I am excited to chart customers’ expectations and use them as a basis for building new services that will also enrich the urban experience offered by Helsinki on a broader scale,” says Sari Nevalinna, keen to take on her new challenge.

The cargo business operations of the Port will be transferred in their entirety to the responsibility of Jukka Kallio, the current director of the Vuosaari Harbour. In addition to the cargo traffic at Vuosaari, the cargo transports of the harbours in Helsinki city centre will be carried out under his leadership in the future.

At the same time, the current director of the passenger harbours, Kari Noroviita, will be appointed director of the Technical Services unit when Timo Laitinen retires on 1 November 2018.
