The Latvian port also hit a new ro-ro cargo units handling all-time high last year, when 81,755 trucks and trailers (+2.3% year-on-year) went through Ventspils' quays.
A record number of pax cars in ferry traffic was marked, too, up by 28.9% on the 2016 result to a total of 68,461 vehicles.
Overall, the Port of Ventpils made 20.04mt in 2017, marking an uptick by 6.5% yoy. While the turnover of liquids contracted again (-2.1% yoy to 10.69mt), dry bulk and general cargo handlings both rose - by 26.3% yoy and 1.4% yoy to 6.83mt and 2.51mt, respectively.
Out of the general cargo total, wheeled freight amounted to almost 2.11mt (+4.0% yoy).
