WORLDWIDE Flight Services (WFS) has opened a 465 square metre air freight depot at Cork Airport with an annual capacity of 3,000 tonnes expected to handle mainly pharmaceuticals, computer parts and medical devices.

"We can now offer the full WFS experience at all three major airports in (the Republic) Ireland whether the cargo is flown in to or out of these airports or trucked to and from the UK," said WFS Ireland managing director Gerry Jackson.

WFS Ireland is the appointed handling agent for most of US airlines flying to and from Ireland, including Delta Airlines, American Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways. The company is also the appointed handler for British Airways, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, Lufthansa and SAS. It handled a total of 25,000 tonnes of goods and materials to and from Ireland in 2011.
