The Baltic Sea region is taking a decisive step towards a sustainable maritime future through the DeCoInter project. This EU-funded initiative brings together key stakeholders to accelerate the energy transition within port ecosystems. We are proud to announce that several BPO member ports are playing a pivotal role in this transformation, serving as hubs for innovation and strategic development.
The involvement of our member ports is central to the project’s technical success. The Port of Szczecin-Świnoujście is working on an energy transition program, including the development of an onshore power supply system (OPS), aligned with the Comprehensive Seaport Energy Transition Strategies. These achievements will then be used to develop a digital mapping and prioritization tool that support s location plans for renewable energy sources and alternative fuels infrastructure. These efforts will culminate in detailed implementation reports and strategy modules, ensuring a robust framework for future transshipment activities.
Simultaneously, the Port of Rønne and the Port of Klaipėda are contributing specialized expertise to the consortium. Rønne is focusing on the practical application of Onshore Power Supply (OPS) systems and supporting knowledge-exchange seminars to harmonize bunkering procedures for green fuels. Meanwhile, Klaipėda is focusing on identifying transition needs and adapting energy strategies to meet the complex challenges of both port operations and the surrounding hinterland. Together, these ports are creating a blueprint for the "Green Port" of tomorrow.
