The old Europeans believed that birds bring back the warmth of spring on their wings. In doing so, they also bring salvation from hunger, cold and scarcity, followed by joy and hope. The memory of the ancient days still lives in the Lithuanian ethnic culture: the 24th of February, referred to as the Skylark Day, is the first day of spring in our traditional calendar.

24 February 2022 marked the beginning of a war. Russia attacked Ukraine, which continues to defend itself with inspiring bravery.

Picking up a paint brush was an intuitive response to this unprovoked insane war. I started painting The Skylark Day on the first day of the war and it was completed on the tenth. What this painting communicates is that my heart is with the brothers and sisters defending their home.

If you feel the same, I invite you to join the joint effort to help the struggling nation.

I put The Skylark Day on an auction. You are welcome to make your bid. The painting will be sold to whoever offers the highest bid in the next 30 days since the publication of this text.

The funds will be donated to the Blue/Yellow www.blue-yellow.lt organisation, which has been supporting Ukraine since 2014.

The painting will be delivered to any part of the world.
