Port of Antwerp Authority partners with start-up accelerator PortXL

2018 03 08

PortXL is growing internationally. After two successful editions in Rotterdam, it was announced last week that a similar programme will be launched in Singapore, no later than early 2019. The second international PortXL location is also a fact. The Port of Antwerp signed on Thursday 22 February a contract with PortXL International, the start-up accelerator that works with start-ups globally. Within this framework of collaboration, the Port of Antwerp wants to bring maritime start-ups into contact with companies in the port to accelerate the introduction of innovative technologies on the port platform. "There are numerous examples showing that collaboration with start-ups accelerates innovation", explains Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of the Port of Antwerp Authority. "As a realization of the Harbour of Things, PortXL International will scout, match and support with the accelerated development of maritime and port related start-ups."

PortXL, the leading maritime start-up accelerator
PortXL has accumulated an impressive network of maritime start-ups in recent years. By means of a thorough screening process, the network is expanding yearly with start-ups that are considered to be most promising. "We support these start-ups, bringing them in contact with port companies that see potential in the business case of specific start-ups," explains Mare Straetmans, managing director of PortXL. "For the companies in the port, this cooperation offers the advantage that they come into contact with the most progressive and newest ideas and technologies, allowing them to for example accelerate and improve their business processes considerably," states Straetmans.

The search for port companies
Port of Antwerp Authority will be a partner for PortXL for a period of three years. The first 8 to 10 international start-ups are expected to be introduced into the port network by the end of June. Port of Antwerp together with Cees-Willem Koorneef, responsible for PortXL in Antwerp, is currently in the process of searching for port companies that want to make use of that start-up program.
