Awareness Raising Animation from the GEF-UNDP-IMO / WOC GloFouling Partnership
The World Ocean Council (WOC) – the lead GloFouling Project Partner for engaging the wider ocean business and investment community – invites interested parties to view the animation produced by the GEF-UNDP-IMO / WOC GloFouling Partnerships on tackling biofouling, invasive species and CO2 emissions worldwide.
This animation is designed to raise awareness about the two main issues the project is tackling: invasive aquatic species introduced through biofouling, and biofouling increasing the resistance of ships which has a direct impact on higher fuel consumption and increased greenhouse gas emission.

The introduction of invasive aquatic organisms into new marine environments not only affects biodiversity and ecosystem health, but also has measurable impacts on a number of economic sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture and ocean energy. By addressing the contribution of biofouling to increased frictional resistance on ship hulls and the resulting increase in fuel consumption, the GloFouling Project also aims to catalyze tangible reductions in global CO2 emissions.
Over the long term, WOC will continue its work with the diverse Ocean Business Community to develop best practices, investment and innovation to tackle biofouling and invasive species. For more information, visit https://www.glofouling.imo.
