Baltic Sea region LNG cluster will be established in Vilnius

Baltic Sea region LNG cluster and the LNG Competence Centre will be established in order to enhance international cooperation in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Agreements on these cooperation platforms will be signed during the conference in Vilnius to be held on 26-27 April.

The LNG cluster of the countries in the Baltic Sea region is a business cooperation organisation that will include national parties from Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany and Poland. These parties will unite to speed up the development of innovations, technologies and an infrastructure in the field of LNG in this region. The establishment of the LNG Competence Centre of the countries in the Baltic Sea region will rally the educational institutions that seek to improve teaching in the field of LNG and to grow a critical mass of LNG technology specialists, which is essential for the development of the related technologies in the Baltic Sea region.
The conference titled “Go LNG – Building LNG competence and business partnership for the Baltic sea region” will be attended by high-ranking state officials supporting the establishment of this new cooperation platform including: the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania, Mindaugas Sinkevičius; Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, Rokas Masiulis; and Minister of Energy of the Republic of Lithuania, Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.

The delegation of foreign visitors will include: the Polish Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation, Marek Gróbarczyk; and Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Norway and the Netherlands distinguished by a solid contribution in building links for international cooperation in the LNG sphere, J. E. Dag Malmer Halvorsen and J. E. Bert van der Lingen. A welcome guest of the Conference will be Dr. Cleopatra Doumbia-Henry, the President of the World Maritime University, established by the International Maritime Organisation (IMO).

The event will also be attended by the representatives of the international corporations “Nauticor GmbH&Co KG”, “DNV GL”, “SGS” and “Emerson”.

This international conference is to be held within the framework of the Go LNG project implemented by the Klaipeda Science and Technology Park (KSTP), a leader of the project that has brought together 18 partners from 7 countries. The park also acts as a coordinator of the Lithuanian LNG cluster.

Klaipeda Science and Technology Park is a business support organisation established by the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania and Klaipeda University.
