INTERNATIONAL EVENTS. The Great Stone among Belarus‘ Most Intriguing Attractions


The Lithuanian delegation began the events of the Belarusian Transport Week, which took place for four days in Minsk, with an interesting tour to the Great Stone China-Belarus Industrial Park, developed in a beautiful territory near the airport 25 km outside of Minsk.

The Great Stone as the symbol of Chinese-Belarusian cooperation

Belarus and China have begun their long way of negotiations and interest adjustment in 2010, resulting in the implementation of the joint China-Belarus project – the construction of the Great Stone industrial park, which commenced in 2014. The park is expected to become an example of the future industry, enabling Belarus to make a technological leap and achieve financial stability.

The Lithuanian delegation was welcomed at the Park by the Deputy Director General Sergej Vaitechovskij, who introduced them to this currently largest project in Belarus. 

The industrial park was granted the status of a special economic zone and a special regime for implementing economic activity. The park is dedicated to the high–tech industry and business, including scientific research, development, production and logistics. It also benefits from tax concessions and free customs regime. The general vision for the industrial park is a 112 sq. m environmentally-friendly city with convenient residential conditions for 200 000 citizens. The park is divided into territorial areas: logistics, production, residential and administrative. According to plan, the production area should take up less than 50 % of the park‘s territory.

The project involves not only industrial and logistic areas, but also administrative and residential premises. According to Sergej Vaitechovskij, the park will also put a major focus on ecology and environmental protection. In order to ensure the vision of an environmentally-friendly city, the park‘s development focuses on such industries as high-tech engineering, electronics and telecommunications, fine chemicals, biotechnology, pharmaceutics, development of new materials, logistics, e-commerce and large data processing.

And this list is not conclusive. The area that is most interesting is innovative production with great potential for exports.

Currently the park already has 19 registered residents: 12 Chinese companies (such as Kronospan, Zoomlion, ZTE, Huawei), including China Merchants Group, implementing the project of the logistics subpark. The first objects for their logistics park (total area – 100 000 sq. m) – an office building, an exhibition centre and 3 warehouses (18 000 sq. m each) – are already completed, with hotels, business centres, etc. planned for the near future. Other residents include 3 companies from Belarus and one from Switzerland, Germany, the USA and Lithuania (organic packaging) each. The number of residents should increase to 20 by the end of the year 2017.

 It was particularly interesting to visit buildings already-built and used, while listening to informative explanations. The landscaping works, taking place at the same time as the constructions, the complex of production buildings, as well as a new exhibition centre that will offer modern conditions for exhibitions and conferences, have left a truly great impression.

1/3 of cargo handled at the port of Klaipėda comes from Belarus

As a tradition, the first conference of the Belarusian Transport Week was dedicated to the cooperation between Lithuania and Belarus.

“Belarus is an important partner of the port of Klaipėda, making participation at these events an excellent opportunity to introduce the port of Klaipėda and its future projects. The purpose our port is to create the best conditions for our partners, making them choose the route for their goods through the port of Lithuania. Meetings with current and potential partners open new opportunities to develop successful cooperation.” talked Arvydas Vaitkus, Director General of Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, at the conference.

During the plenary session on “Connecting the Belarusian transport and logistics system with the Silk Road economic belt” A. Vaitkus introduced the activity of the port of Klaipėda and its development perspectives, emphasizing the fact that Belarusian cargo constitutes about one third of the total cargo turnover at the port of Klaipėda.

Belarusian Transport Week, which also included the XI international Transport and Logistics 2017 specialised exhibition, forums and seminars, featured 76 participating companies, coming from 9 countries. The joint exposition of Klaipėda Seaport featured 11 companies, introducing their activity.

Just like every year, JŪRA MOPE SEA international business magazine also had its own stand, distributing the latest issue of this year‘s JŪRA MOPE SEA, as well as previous issues of the magazine. The visitors were particularly interested in the special issue, published in five (English, Chinese, Russian, Lithuanian and Kazakh) languages and dedicated to the international EXPO 2017, which took place in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, and, among other participants, also featured the Belarusian pavilion.
