Visions

There are plenty of plans, schemes, drafts, and models in this issue of the magazine, visions about future – in texts.
Although scientists fear that the old continent of Europe is getting older, having in mind the increasing age of the inhabitants, we, the settlers of the European Union, having celebrated the first anniversary of the membership in it, feel young and resolute.
As an independent country, we try to outgrow adolescence complexes as fast as possible and rush to seize things we did not have or lost over the challenges destined to us by history.
The leaders of the Lithuanian seaport and its inhabitants hope, that Klaipeda successfully stepping forward by the road of entertainment and tourism, will soon become one of the most attractive Baltic ports to harbor the greatest cruise liners of the world and the regattas of the great sailboats.
The fact, that one of the seven biggest cruise vessels of the world Constellation this year hails to Klaipeda even three times, shows that our old city, counting eight centuries of its existence, is interesting to the travelers of other countries and continents.
In order to make it more attractive, businessmen and architects create ambitious plans, discuss the construction possibilities of new city highlights, streets, squares, quays, and terminals, not fearing the predictions that Klaipeda may be a potential candidate to become a central Baltic port, a “hub”.
No less ambitious are the visions of the other great Lithuanian city Kaunas, shaping the transcontinental routes via Lithuania and envisaging symbiosis with the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation that happened to be in the embrace of the European Union.
We hurry to share these visions, which are presented by the specialists of various fields on the pages of our magazine, with the participants of international forums gathered from different countries to the exhibition and conference Freight Russia in Moscow and one of the biggest European transport and logistics exhibitions in the German city Munich.
In the end of July, after these forums, we invite everyone to come to Klaipeda, to the most beautiful fiesta of the summer – “Sea Festival 2005”, the slogan of which this year urges: “Sail to Klaipeda!”
You are kindly welcome.

Sincerely Yours,
Zita Tallat-Kelpsaite
